With the Royal Rumble done and only two pay-per-views before the “Showcase of the Immortals” Wrestlemania, WWE is in a very strange place. Talk and buzz around the world of wrestling is saying that WWE has some rather questionable matches set up for the biggest show of the year.

The one that seems the most out of place out of all of this is the rumors of a match between the best wrestler in the world, AJ Styles and the guy who isnt even a wrestler, Shane McMahon. This is probably the stupidest thing that WWE has ever thought of. AJ blew into the WWE at last year’s Royal Rumble and has had an amazing year. Winning the WWE title and beating John Cena clean, but essentially going to be wasted at this years mania. Now this match will probably be acceptable as AJ can carry a broom stick threw a classic, but this is just not what the best wrestler in the world deserves.

While John Cena is the WWE champion at this moment it isn’t crazy to think he’ll drop the strap to Bray Wyatt in the Elimination Chamber so it will set up for Randy Orton vs Bray at Wrestlemania. What will that leave John Cena doing? We’ll rumor is that he will be included in a mixed tag match with his real life girlfriend Nikki Bella against the team of The Miz and his wife Maryse. Again this is a huge waste. The Miz has had the best run of his career with the brand split, breathing new life into the Intercontinental Championship and just becoming a much better worker in the ring. While John Cena is the flagship face of the WWE and would be much better suited in a more “main event’ scene, but we’ll get to that soon enough.

This years Wrestlemania also leaves many superstars with nothing to do. Stars like Luke Harper, Sami Zayn, Samo Joe, Finn Balor, and Braun Strowman are essentially being left behind. This is a big disappointment because all of these guys have something to offer at the show of shows. Braun has been going on an amazing monster heel run, and with no opponent at mania that could just kill his momentum. Joe has just come on the the main event with his signing of a Raw contract. Joe has absolutely nothing to do at Mania, with Seth Rollins out with a knee injury he doesn’t even have anything to do at Fastlane. It would be a shame if none of these wrestlers made it on the card for the night.

Back to the John Cena thing. One of the matches that seems to be set in stone is Roman Reigns vs Undertaker. Who wants to see this? The only way any good can come out of this is if Roman will play the heel in the contest. Now the scenario that most fans thought when Undertaker made his return this year was a dream match at Wrestlemania with John Cena. It would have been a perfect way to send Taker out on what should be his last ride. The veteran and the face of the company send an absolute legend in a match built around respect. WWE even could have even had Taker pass the torch to a younger talent like Finn, but instead all fans got was Roman Reigns.

There are some good matches set for the card, but there are just too many duds and too much blank space that may detract from the overall event.
