Unlike a lot of people I know, I prefer the book to the movie. There has only been one occasion so far where I have preferred the movie to the book. Other than that, the book always wins in my opinion.

A lot of people’s argument for preferring the movie to the book is that reading is not fun, reading is boring and takes too long, and that it is better to actually see what is happening than having to imagine it. I think that imagining what you are reading is a beautiful thing. You can imagine it in so many different ways! I love being able to imagine what a character looks like in my head. Once I watch the movie, the actor/actress either ruins what I imagined the character to look like, sound like, etc. or they do a very good job at being the character I imagined.

One reason I prefer a book to it’s movie is that books have more information than movies do. An author can fit as much information as they want into a book. A director can only fit so much information into one movie. Some directors try to cram a little too much information and action into a movie and it does not turn out very well. With books, readers get to know the characters so much better. They know their thoughts, wants, needs, desires. They know what they are thinking about every event, action, and other characters. With movies, people do not really get to know the character as well as they can if they read the book.

I wish more people preferred books to their movies. They would know the characters and the story so much better if they took a little bit of time out of their day to sit down and read a chapter or two.
