The Jefferson Morgan and Waynesburg coed rifle team finished their season this year with 7 wins and 2 losses; this being one of their best seasons, allowed for them to go to WPIAL’s this year.

The coed Jefferson/Waynesburg rifle team made it to WPIAL’s. The WPIAL’s were on February 9th, and were held Dormont-MT. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club. The team ended up finishing in 4th place, they finished 4th place out of 6. Cameron Cernuska said, “Considering this is my first year I think I did fairly well, especially putting into consideration we got 4th in WPIAL’s and are going to states.”

Since they got 4th in the WPIAL’s, they are going to states now. The state competition is going to be more difficult for the rifle team considering that these teams are the best teams from around state. State competition will be held on Tuesday, February 16 at Frazier Simplex.

“I think we will do fairly well at States, even if we don’t win, it’s still something to say that we got 4th in WPIAL’s,” said Cameron Cernuska.

Practice for the WPIAL’s and States has been nonstop for the team. The practice needs to be almost nonstop so that the team can play their best at the competition. Cameron Cernuska is the only freshman on the team, while the team is also lacking having any sophomore players form the Jefferson side. Next year the team will lose a lot of their best players and experienced, because of their graduation. Cameron Cernuska (freshman), Michael Pochran (junior), and Dylan Crockard (junior) are going to have some big shoes to fill.

Michael Pochran said, “This is one of my best seasons this year, being a 3rd year rifle team member I could always improve. We played our best at the WPIAL’s, and we showed it by getting 4th and heading to States.”

States are going to be held soon, so soon in fact it is being held next Tuesday, good luck to everyone on the rifle team, and congratulations  to Emily Ozohonish who place 10th in rifle individuals.
