Jefferson-Morgan is having Morgan Mondays in May. Morgan Mondays are where you wear purple, her favorite color, every Monday in the month of May in support of Morgan Yoney.

Morgan Yoney is 21 and from Waynesburg and in need of +O lungs. She is battling Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder in which the lungs and digestive system are clogged with mucus, often resulting in liver and lung transplants. She had a double lung and liver transplant in 2010, but her body has been rejecting the lungs. Now she is in dire need for lungs and is on the transplant list again at UPMC. Morgan Yoney has been through breathing tubes and countless hospital visits and stays. She has been waiting for a year-and-a-half for her second set of lungs. Her lungs have been functioning below 19%. Her second double lung transplant will be a more difficult surgery then the first one. She has to be strong enough for the surgery to take place. If her kidneys start to fail, she’ll be taken off the transplant waiting list because the procedure would be too risky. Recently Morgan Yoney had a trach inserted to help her breathe. A trach is a wide, hollow tube that connects the larynx to the bronchi of the lungs.

According to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation about 30,000 people are living with Cystic Fibrosis in the United States. About 1,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. More than 75% of people with Cystic Fibrosis are diagnosed by the age of 2.

If you or your family would like to donate money to help with the many out-of-pocket expenses, please see Mrs. Fulks in Room 208. Remember to wear purple every Monday in May to show support for Morgan Yoney.
