Library Club has exposed me to new people who are interested in keeping the library system in place and strong. It is a good reading opportunity, but you get out what you put into it. Some students read more than others.

Students should join Library Club if they like to read books because it’s a great reading opportunity. The Library Club participates in many activities that associate with books including helping with the book fair, encouraging others to read, and going to a reading competition. Reading is important and the Library Club can be an awesome way to get more involved in reading.

Every spring the Library Club goes to a reading competition held at Waynesburg University. The students face other schools like Waynesburg or West Greene. There are middle and high school teams. The students read a list of certain books, and then they are quizzed on those reading materials. Last year Jefferson-Morgan’s high school team got 2nd place in the whole competition. The team had a lot of fun. The competition strengthens the club’s reading skills.

“I think that library club is a heat program. It does a lot to help out and provide academic opportunities for those who wish to pursue them. It provides me motivation to read and I would recommend other students to join,” said Connor Alcorn, a current member. A “heat” program is a program that offers academic skills and help.

Ten library club students were asked what their favorite activity about library club is. Eight of the students said that their favorite activity is the reading competition. Two students said that they love encouraging other people to read.

Haley Bercosky, who is not a member, said, “I have heard of Library Club through my friends. Reading is one of my hobbies and I’d be interested in joining if I had the time.”

Many students do not know all about the club. There are many students that read who may enjoy joining. Reading is a big part of the Library Club. It helps educate students with reading. The club can interest students to read more. In order to join the club, students just have to go to the meetings and read the books they’re told to read. “For lazy readers like me it provides motivation to read,” said Alcorn.

According to Herald Standard, The Greene County Library System’s mission is to encourage students to learn more about books and have fun while reading. Students can benefit academically from reading; it can help them with comprehension. Library Club is a fun opportunity that can better a student’s reading skills. The American Library Association encourages students on their website to join book clubs, because it can be very helpful in reading. If a student enjoys reading literature, they should definitely check into the Library Club.
